Reliance Jio announced the 4G enabled feature phone called the JioPhone at its 2017 AGM. And at this year’s AGM (5th July, 2018), the company now announced the JioPhone 2 with QWERTY keyboard. What’s new? Well the JioPhone 2 will support Facebook, WhatsApp, and Youtube. Though, the above mentioned apps will also be provided via OTA update starting August 15th.
The JioPhone 2 is priced at an introductory price of Rs 2,999 and will be available starting from August 15th. Jio also confirmed that JioPhone 2 will also be sold alongside the original JioPhone in India.
“We have more than 25 million JioPhone users in India. We are now taking the JioPhone to the next level, with added capabilities and functionalities,” said RIL’s Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh D Ambani at the company’s annual general meeting in Mumbai.
Some of the features of the JioPhone 2 are–
The JioPhone 2 has the same 2.4-inch QVGA display, but with 9:16 aspect ratio. Underneath the display is a 4-row of QWERTY keyboard and 4-key navigation buttons. In contrary to the JioPhone the new JioPhone 2 supports dual SIM. It comes with a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. It runs on KAI operating system and packs 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The smartphone supports SD card for expandable storage up to 128GB. In terms of connectivity, the phone supports FM, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and NFC.
The company also introduced a new Jio Monsoon offer under which customers can replace their existing feature phonesbfor a new JioPhone for just Rs 501.
