The most awaited launch event of the year has officially kicked off in Mumbai, with the introduction of the OnePlus 6 flagship smartphone followed by the Bullets Wireless earphones. The launch event already held in London on 16th of May, but the madness of Indian fans certainly pulls OnePlus for yet another launch especially for India. The smartphone will be available from the starting of May 21 via pop-up stores as well as on Amazon.
The OnePlus 6 sports an all-glass design for the first time as compared to other OnePlus devices. According to company, the Mirror Black colour option’s glass back is “just as resilient as any of other our previous phones” and a huge thanks to the Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Along with the Mirror Black, there’s also a Midnight Black version which is also made of glass but features a matte finish. For fans, OnePlus also offers Silk White colour option and it will hit the market on June 5.
Now talking about the specifications, well in word – WOW. But feelings apart. The device has a 6.28-inch Full-HD+ display panel with an 19:9 aspect ratio. Yes it has a notch inspired by the iPhone X, but for a moment let’s forget about it. OnePlus 6 is powered by the flagship 10nm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and surprisingly, retains the 3.5mm audio jack. OnePlus has also confirmed it will come with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. There’s a vertically-aligned dual rear camera setup right in the middle, with a 20MP primary sensor and a 16MP secondary sensor. On the front, it is has a 16MP selfie camera. The OnePlus 6 cameras are upgraded too, such as improved low light photography capabilities, better Portrait Mode effects (including on the front camera soon), slow-mo videos, and a video editor feature.
The primary rear camera now sports 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor with 1.22µm pixel size, OIS, EIS, and f/1.7 aperture. This new sensor is said to be 19% larger than the Sony IMX398 sensor used on the OnePlus 5T. The 20MP secondary rear camera remains same as on the OnePlus 5T. It is a Sony IMX376K sensor with 1.0µm pixel size and f/1.7 aperture. Even the 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor on the front is the same one offered with the OnePlus 5T.
It does have the slow-mo feature but not as good as seen on the Samsung Galaxy S9+ because the OnePlus 6 can record 4K videos at 60 fps and 720p super slow motion videos at 480 fps only.
The OnePlus 6 is backed by a 3300mAh Dash Charge-compatible battery. It does have the Face Unlock and also the fingerprint sensor. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.1.2 custom UI, and will get Android P Beta developer preview soon. As seen on other major flagship smartphones, there are no stereo speakers on the OnePlus 6 too. It is worth to mention here that, the OnePlus 6 is only splash resistant, but not water resistant as there is no IP certification. Along with the OnePlus logo on the rear, we are newly seeing the ‘Designed by OnePlus’ tagline. The alert slider position is changed from left edge to right edge on the OnePlus 6.
It measures 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.75 mm and weighs 177 grams. Connectivity options include Cat.16 LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C 2.0 port.
The OnePlus 6 priced at ₹34,999 for the variant with 6GB + 64GB storage. The 8GB + 128GB storage variant cost ₹ 39,999. However, the Oneplus 6 Avengers limited edition that comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage would be sold in India for ₹ 44,999.
The smartphone goes on sale in India on May 21 via pop-up stores the company will setup in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, as well as from the OnePlus Experience Store in Bengaluru.
When it comes to online channels, the OnePlus 6 is an Amazon exclusive as always, and will be up for grabs from the same with a number of deals.
