Xiaomi Redmi 5 Launched in India

Today, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5 smartphone in India. The live stream was anchored by Xiaomi’s India head Mr. Manu Kumar Jain. Mr Jain has spoken about the design, processor, camera, and display of the Redmi 5, and compared it from the Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt and Moto G5s. The device is launched in 3 variants namely, 2/16GB, 3/32GB and 4/64GB. The base variant costs Rs. 7,999, the mid-variant costs Rs. 8,999 while the top variant comes with a price of Rs. 10,999. The device is powered by the 14nm Snapdragon 450 processor. It will be available in Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Lake Blue color options.

Mr. Manu Kumar Jain says that the device has been tested for durability with multiple tests. Redmi 5 will come with an ultra-slim case free of cost for added protection. It will be available to purchase next week from Mi.com, Mi Home stores, and is exclusive to Amazon India, and will come with Rs. 2,200 cashback from Jio. Also announced at the live streamed event was that the smartphone will come with a made in India tag.

The Redmi 5 comes with Android Nougat with MIUI 9 on the top. The smartphone sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 282ppi pixel density. As we mentioned above, the device has 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor with Adreno 506 GPU. The device comes with 2GB/ 3GB/ 4GB of RAM and 16GB/ 32GB /64 GB of on-board storage. There is also a circular fingerprint sensor placed on the rear of the device. Connectivity options on the Redmi 5 include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, IR Blaster, 3.5mm Audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. 

In the camera department, the Redmi 5 comes with a 12-megapixel rear sensor with f/2.2 aperture, that has features like, PDAF, and LED flash. On the front is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter with a “soft-light” flash module. The front camera also has Beautify 3.0 capabilities. There is a 3300mAh battery in the device. Dimensions of the Redmi 5 are 151.8×72.8×7.7mm and weight is 157 grams.
