Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid: A Smart Evolution in Urban Commuting
India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has officially launched the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid in India, reinforcing its commitment to blending technology with daily ride convenience. The new model is equipped with Yamaha’s hybrid engine technology and advanced digital features, enhancing efficiency, connectivity, and control.
Priced at ₹1,49,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is offered in a Matte Titan color and aims to provide an ideal balance between performance and smart mobility for daily commuters and weekend riders alike.
Two Variants to Choose From
Alongside the hybrid version, Yamaha will continue to offer the FZ-X in its standard non-hybrid format at ₹1,29,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi), available in Dark Matte Blue and Metallic Black color options. This strategy gives consumers the flexibility to choose based on performance preferences, feature priorities, and budget.
Hybrid Powertrain with Smart Motor Generator and Stop & Start System
The heart of the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is its 149cc air-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, which delivers:
-
12.4 PS of peak power at 7,250 rpm
-
13.3 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm
New to this model is the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) and Stop & Start System (SSS):
-
The SMG assists with smoother engine starts and silent ignition
-
The SSS enhances fuel efficiency by shutting down the engine at idle and restarting it seamlessly via clutch input
Together, these technologies offer a refined, eco-conscious, and convenient riding experience for dense city traffic and short trips.
TFT Display and Advanced Connectivity
A significant upgrade in the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is its 4.2-inch full-color TFT instrument cluster. The display supports smartphone connectivity through Yamaha’s Y-Connect app, which provides:
-
Incoming call and message alerts
-
Real-time fuel consumption data
-
Maintenance and malfunction notifications
-
Last parked location memory
-
Ride history and ranking features for tracking performance
Additionally, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, powered by Google Maps, is integrated directly into the TFT screen. This ensures the rider receives route guidance, street names, and intersection alerts without the need for external devices or frequent stops.
Safety and Comfort Enhancements
To enhance road safety and rider confidence, the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid comes equipped with:
-
Traction Control System (TCS) for improved grip in slippery conditions
-
Single-channel ABS to prevent wheel lock during sudden braking
-
Telescopic front suspension and 7-step adjustable Monocross rear suspension for balanced handling
-
A specially designed dual-level seat with tuck-and-roll pattern, providing excellent slip resistance and comfort over long rides
These features aim to improve the overall comfort, stability, and handling performance, particularly on variable Indian road conditions.
Neo-Retro Design with Premium Touches
The Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid continues to carry the distinctive neo-retro styling the model is known for, now enhanced with modern cues such as:
-
Sturdy metal bodywork
-
Round LED headlamp with DRL
-
Brushed aluminum side panels
-
Prominent ‘Yamaha’ tank branding for stronger identity appeal
These design details give the FZ-X Hybrid a unique presence, attracting riders who value both function and aesthetics.
Official Remarks from Yamaha India
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, stated:
“After receiving strong customer feedback on our hybrid technology in the FZ-S Fi Hybrid, extending the same innovation to the FZ-X was a logical step. This launch highlights Yamaha’s ongoing focus on innovation, performance, and understanding the needs of modern riders.”
